Episode 8, Celebrating AZ
Two treasured lodges, very different: first Julie takes us to Hannagan Meadow, then Lisa to Poco Diablo, Sedona’s first resort.

Does it bother me that tutti-frutti is basically chewable brandy? Maybe less than it should. At this point in my life I think that good habits are useful. But being so bound to a good habit that it makes you tense and clenched and judgmental seems to me to be a much worse one, both on the holder of the habit and everyone around. So we still aren’t drinkers, and we don’t offer wine and spirits to visitors. But with a wink and a thank you to God for all the amazing things He creates, we can serve the minister tutti-frutti over ice cream on Sundays, and I don’t feel guilty. I feel grateful. Besides, we laugh more those days.
Making Peace
by Julie Morrison
Begin with a hefty handful
of something you can’t stomach:
grate
to find seeds,
separate, then soak
in stillness.
While waiting,
slice perspective
into see-through layers,
add humor to taste,
then toss together.
Peel a strand of acceptance
from one mature love
to sweeten as desired.
Test seed for tenderness:
if dissolved, toss away,
if pliant,
add as garnish:
texture should be chewy,
not choking.
Do not freeze
or leave for later.
Enjoy immediately,
served with a piece of sky.
